What are lab services?

Lab services refer to blood, urine, stool, and secretion testing. These tests can provide essential information about your overall health because they can detect signs of infection, disease, and chronic illness early. Clinica Latina offers lab services in both of their Irving offices. 

What types of lab services are available?

Some of the main types of lab services offered at Clinica Latina include:

Blood tests

Blood tests can help diagnose, prevent, and manage many health problems. One of the most common blood tests is the complete blood count (CBC), which evaluates components of your red and white blood cells and platelets. CBCs can help detect anemia, nutritional deficiencies, infections, sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), and certain types of cancer like leukemia.

Comprehensive metabolic panel (CMP) is another common blood test. It checks several parts of your blood to evaluate kidney and liver function, glucose, electrolytes, and other basic bodily functions. This helps diagnose conditions like diabetes and kidney disease. 

Most patients also have lipid panels — blood tests that check cholesterol and triglyceride levels — during exams. Lipid panels help detect the buildup of plaque, a sticky substance that can block arteries and lead to stroke or other emergencies.

Men need prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood tests starting at age 50 (or earlier depending on risk factors) to detect early indicators of prostate cancer. 

Urine tests

Stool tests

Stool tests can detect problems such as Helicobacter pylori (H.pylori) infections in the stomach and colorectal cancer.

Swab test

Swab tests collect secretions or a small amount of cells from an area like the back of the throat, the nasal passages, or the genitals. Swab tests can detect conditions like COVID-19, strep throat, and some STDs.

When might I need lab services?
